What is life all about?

Looking at life from a neurological perspective can be disheartening, realising that all our experiences boil down to a series of chemical reactions. With this understanding, emotions like love, joy, and sadness take on a different significance.

Upon initially hearing this revelation, I was genuinely shocked, grappling with the implications and pondering the purpose of life if it's merely a result of neurons connecting. The silver lining, however, lies in the realm of creativity. We have the power to define our purpose, prioritise what matters to us, and construct meaning accordingly.

For me, life centres around fulfilment. I evaluate situations based on how they align with my core values and emotions. Yes, I sometimes engage in activities I don't particularly enjoy, recognising that they contribute to my desired destination. Even though I may attempt to push them aside, acknowledging that they don't serve me, I remind myself of the greater purpose and where these actions lead.

One of the most valuable lessons I've learned is to listen to my intuition and emotions. Often referred to as the second brain, the gut communicates with our nervous system without the ability to second-guess itself. I've made excuses for my gut feelings, trying to rationalise my thoughts, only to realise that this led me in the opposite direction of my true desires.

Returning to the importance of listening to our bodies and needs, it becomes crucial to be mindful of where we invest our energy, particularly concerning relationships. We've all experienced draining situations where we end up acting to make others comfortable. What if we surrounded ourselves with people who share similar energy, empower us, and allow us to be authentic? Choosing such connections not only leads to a more fulfilling life but also makes it easier to navigate. The individuals we spend time with significantly influence our energy and life choices. Reflect on how you feel in the company of others and assess if they contribute to your journey towards becoming the best version of yourself.
